Hats, hats, hats... Etsy millinery...

13/7/2017

As I said in my last post, I've been getting back to normal with stuff now I'm back (see last post *points down*).

And I've been merrily restocking my Etsy shop.  I still have a ton of stuff to add, and when I do I'll be issuing a discount code for it (details to follow on Instagram, Facebook, and in my newsletter (subscribe using the form here)).

Once that's a go, I'll be relaunching my website store (currently hidden while I squirrel away in the background).

In the meantime, look how the Etsy shop is doing:

Isn't it all exciting??? (well it is for me, 'kay *grin*).

Long time away...

29/6/2017

Phew, it's been a  while since I'v updated the website, (or facebook page, or Etsy shop...).

Simply put, I wasn't very well, and needed to get better.  But I'm ba-a-a-a-ck!!

I've started listing pieces in the Etsy shop again (it's HERE (the link opens in a new window, so if you have pop up blockers and it doesn't work, that's why)).  and they'll appear in the web shop in due course.

I've started with a few, and have a **lot** more to go - I may not have been publicly very active, but I've still been beavering away, designing and making and learning (cos you never really stop) for the last couple of years.

As a taster of things to come, this little headpiece is one of my most recent creations, which will soon be listed on the website and on Etsy.

Meantime, for sneak peaks of things mid-make, and for what else I'm up to, do follow me on Instagram and on the Facebook page (links on the right).

A Christmas game to play...

And I've started playing with (also known as designing, but mainly by grown-ups) my new Bridal collection.  Pics will follow once I actually have something worth photographing, but the first is a concoction of crin and silk flowers...

In the meantime, because everybody should get to play, no matter how old a kid they are, here's a little Santa game to play.  :)

It's Christmas!!!

Well, nearly.  Today is our last day of proper work, before I start baking and wrapping Christmas presents, so I thought I'd take a minute to say Happy Christmas to everybody, with one of my favourite Christmas scenes, from Meet Me in St Louis...
Merry Christmas!

Graduation, and a Hat for Charity...

12/12/2013

It was a bit of a big week for Debbie last week.  It was her graduation ceremony on Friday, so she now has a piece of paper proving she can make hats!!  And she graduated 'with distinction'.

Other news - Debbie has now finished the charity headpiece that she's been working on.  It's made from hand rolled sinamay, mounted on a sinamay covered headband.  It's 100% hand made - the process of rolling the edges can only be done by hand.  As the pieces are cut, and then the edges rolled, and shaped by hand, every piece made using the technique will be slightly different, making the hat unique.

The piece is inspired by a design Debbie is working on for her Spring / Summer 2014 collection, but in different colours (chocolate brown and yellow, as shown below).  We will be listing this piece on Ebay shortly, and donating 100% of the selling price to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for the Philippines (Debbie is taking no payment for either the materials or her work).  Sinamay originated in the Philippines, and a large quantity of the world supply of sinamay comes from there - including that used to create this headpiece.  As there are currently people in the Philippines who have lost everything thanks to the recent typhoon Haiyan, Debbie feels that this is the least she can do!

First Wedding Fair, and Experimenting with New Range

18/9/2013

We did our first Wedding Fair last weekend, as part of the Yorkshire Wedding Consortium, at Pontefract Racecourse.  It was a fabulous day, and we met lots of lovely people.  We're now looking forward to the next one, which will be on 23rd February 2014.

If you were there, and picked up a card, you'll notice that the address on the website and the address on the card are different - that's because we're just moving into our new studio in Mirfield (all very exciting - more of that later).

Debbie has also been experimenting with a new range.  We appreciate that not everybody can afford to have a fully bespoke, fully handmade, couture piece made, especially given the current economy, etc.   For that reason, Debbie has been planning a 'diffusion' range of designs.  These are put together and trimmed  in our workroom, but the blocking and some components are factory produced.  These will be part of our new '4b by Deborah Walton' range.  We tried out the first two designs (see pics below) from this range at the Wedding Fair in Pontefract, and they proved to be liked, so it's going to be all go on the rest of the range in the coming months.

Picture
The first piece of our new '4b' collection - a 'percher' (or mini hat) in a pinky shade, trimmed with silver ribbon, and a silvery grey silk rose (hand made), embellished with caviar beads, and freshwater pearls.

Picture
The second piece of our '4b' collection - a saucer shaped headpiece, trimmed with a detachable black and silver rose.  The rose is clipped onto a ribbon bow, so the hat can be with or without the rose.

Look out for these and other designs appearing in our shop, and Etsy shop soon!

First new blog post...

18/7/2013

The first post on this, our new blog, to go along with the website.  While I can't guarantee oodles and oodles of posts here, it's nice to have a place to post quick updates, along with pictures that are a bit rough and ready!

For the first post, we're sharing Debbie's online portfolio.  Click on it to view, and then hit escape to come back here.
